Con Mis Manos

Custom Album for Christ In Youth. Joplin, MO

Music for: a world of Uncertainty, Hope, Challenges, and Education

The Challenge

An original atmospheric score that would connect the audience to the Deaf people there at Con Mis Manos, potentially mix in a few traditional Mexican instruments on occasion, and play a little bit with vibrations and the way that Deaf people can feel sounds as opposed to hear them.

The Approach

Crafting a music world that felt authentic but pulled from a dream of sort.

Using nylon string guitar, strings, traditional Mexican percussion, and quiet synths we build a musical world that at times felt like someone was playing on the street corner and at time finding a much deeper introspection of the challenging aspects of life.

The Client Perspective

“I now feel spoiled and I don't want to approach score any other way.”

- Kurt Hoffman / Director

Outcome

The music became more than a finished score, it became part of the filmmaking process.

By starting early, Kurt was able to listen to the music while filming, editing, and developing the story, allowing the tracks to influence the shape and rhythm of the film. With stems and a cohesive body of music to pull from, he could adapt the score to the edit rather than forcing the edit to conform to the music.

The result was a score that elevated the film without distracting from it—bringing personality and character to the story while leaving room for the film itself to breathe.
